A guide to budgets

Every bathroom created is the product of both proven methodology, collectively decades of experience and of course a completely unique approach to our customers' individual design. Therefore, every bathroom has it's own unique menu of options and the related components and work required.

We always remain a humble and unassuming company, but we are very confident about our quotations because we price them to maintain a near 100% conversion rate. The very few that don't go ahead, usually do eventually.

We work in a close community and know what our peers price bathrooms at, so we have uniquely structured and tailored Retreat Bathrooms, so we can slot-in price-wise between the DIY/builder level and the high street shop. We are told we always come out in the middle, but that the lower quote seemed incomplete or lacking in transparency. The shops have to set a minimum threshold because of the overheads they need to cover, which is why they cannot pass-on as much discount, often need to charge for design and also put a mark-up on installation if they are involved in that part. Normally customers tell us that we managed to arrive at thousands less than others, while some have said other installation quotes alone had been coming in at £16,000!

Many years ago, there seemed to be only one big national company offering to help customers with a bathroom beyond products. Locally it seemed people had to go looking for their products in various places, doing most of their own research, finding and seeing various fitters, plasterers, electricians, tilers etc and coordinating everything themselves.

Retreat Bathrooms set-up with the unique positioning of offering a big company service for a direct price-level. In effect, through us and our clever ways we can show you, your quality new bathroom should cost you no more than taking care of it all yourself.

This, in addition to our near unlimited product range and 10-fold levels of service, makes us 'The Same, But Different'.

Most people these days allocate a budget for everything, including all products, tiles, materials, build, installation between £10,000 - 20,000. Most shops we know set a starting threshold of £15,000 upwards and one local shop introduces customers to us who have budgets below that figure.

In the last 12 months, bathrooms we have created have ranged from £4,800 to £22,500, but the lowest one was a simple conversion for an elderly person where they had to convert it from a simple bathroom to a shower room, complete with grab rails and shower seat.

With minimal base build/prep work, normal bathrooms can start from £5,750 if on a budget. It would be a nice bathroom and we could help you to create your bathroom cheaper, but you probably wont want a pedestal basin, cheap tiles or sub-standard level products (which we refuse to sell). It's just not worth it to you.

Most of the bathrooms we create are between £7,500 to £14,500.

You can get a very nice family bathroom for around £7,500, with smart contemporary tiles, continental style wall-hung units, dual shower system etc, but once you start looking at natural stone, all-over tiling, extra feature lighting, underfloor heating and higher-end brands, that when they work-out to nearer £14,500. Over that, it's only normally required if you have a lot of building work and/or want some of the very exclusive products such as £1,800 taps and £5,000 stone baths.
